Monique Has Lost 22kg in Just 12 Weeks — But What She’s Gained Is Even Greater

At 49, Monique Cameron found herself facing a tough truth — one many Aussie women can relate to. After a routine trip to the doctor, she was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, linked directly to her weight.
“I walked out of that office and promised myself I would make a change,” she says.
At the time, Monique weighed 132.5 kilos and was on medication for both depression and severe knee pain. That diagnosis was the wake-up call she needed. Determined to take control of her health, she cut out sugar, carbs, dairy, and unhealthy fats, and started having Lady Shakes twice a day. Her dinner became a simple routine of lean proteins and healthy sides, creating structure and support for her new lifestyle. Monique also began exercising and, just as importantly, working hard to shift her mindset — food was no longer her emotional crutch or way to cope when feeling down.
Twelve weeks later, her results speak volumes. “It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve stuck with it. As of today, I’ve lost 30 kilos in 18 weeks. I haven’t had to take painkillers for my knees in months, and with my diabetes medication (not Ozempic), I genuinely feel a weight lifted off my shoulders—well, more like off my knees, haha.”
Working early mornings as a baker, Monique found the shakes a perfect fit for her busy schedule. “I buy the variety pack each week and in the mornings, I add a shot of coffee to my shake to get my day going.” Her go-to shake hack? “Add a shot of coffee to any flavour and throw in a thick brick of ice to make a delicious, energising breakfast.”
These small, consistent changes have added up to massive shifts in her day-to-day life. “My energy levels are better than ever. I no longer need to sleep during the day and have enough energy after work to get things done.” This improvement in physical wellbeing has brought mental clarity too. “I’ve learned the importance of rewarding myself in healthier ways—like treating myself to a small item at the store, such as a pair of earrings—to remind myself that I’m doing amazing.”
Her family has been right by her side. “My husband joins me on walks, and my loved ones encourage me every day to keep going.” One standout moment came from an unexpected place: “My boss said to me, ‘You’re so different now—not just in your weight, but in who you are. Your demeanour has changed, the way you hold yourself.’” That moment stuck with Monique and reminded her just how far she’s come.
Beyond her own transformation, Monique has been pouring her passion into helping others. She’s been crafting healthy, diabetic-friendly meal ideas based on her food knowledge and research. “I’ve found amazing substitutes that make my dinners taste incredible. I’ve been taking pictures of each meal and writing out the recipes for future reference — and I’m happy to share them with others!”
While she’s only halfway to her end goal, Monique’s mindset is clear and focused. “I take it one day at a time, always making progress.”
